More news from PCC

There is always more to tell about PCC

Isaiah, a new resident of PCC

On October 1st, we welcomed a new resident to PCC, yes indeed!

He’s a little boy, about 4-5 years old, from Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region of Ghana.

Earlier this year, he was abandoned at a bus station early in the morning and later he was brought to Kumasi Children’s Home by Social Welfare.

At the request of KCH, he has now been transferred to PCC.

Isaiah has an intellectual disability and also suffers from epilepsy, likely the result of a birth trauma.

We are happy with his arrival and wish him all the best in our Community.

New water tank

Our community is self-sufficient in water, with our own water pumps and several large storage tanks/overhead tanks. One of the large tanks has provided us with a good supply of water for years, but recently developed a leak due to some sharp points on the platform he was standing on.

Fortunately, thanks to a generous donation from a Ghanaian who recently left for the USA but who certainly hasn’t forgotten PCC, we were able to carry out the necessary repairs and purchase a new water tank.

With a concerted effort, everything was put back in order; strong men lifted the (empty) water tank with great difficulty.

The water is now flowing through the pipes to all the houses as usual!

Pakor

Recently, we sadly had to say a final goodbye to Pakor, who had lived at PCC for over 20 years. He had Down syndrome and autism.

Pakor enjoyed doing his own thing at PCC and was a regular visitor to our special day program for autistic residents.

Without a clear diagnosis, but with a neurological condition, his condition deteriorated steadily over the past two years.

Despite many hospital visits, Pakor passed away during a stay at Techiman Hospital, where he was also buried.

May he rest in peace.

Caregivers Day 2025

It was another big celebration at PCC, as this year we celebrated Caregivers Day for the 10th time, in September.

This is the special day of the year when all caregivers are given special recognition and are thanked profusely by the Board for all their excellent care and dedication to all our residents. This includes a much-appreciated bonus!

It was once again a very special day this year, not only for the Caregivers, but also for all the children.

After all, everyone here certainly appreciates a good party! The special meal with extra chicken was a delicacy for everyone.

The sheer enjoyment was visible and audible everywhere, and that’s how it should be at PCC!

Outreach Daycare Centres

As you know, we now not only provide care at PCC in Nkoranza, but we also have four Daycare Centres in the surrounding districts, where we offer day care five days a week to children with disabilities from various villages.

Two of these Daycare Centres are located in buildings owned by PCC, and the other two Centres are in temporary housing.

In Forikrom, we are currently talking to the Methodist Church, which in 2024 made their old church building available to us for a Daycare Centre for two years, free of charge.

We are now exploring the options to extend our operations in that building, nicely situated in the heart of the village.

In Kyeradeso, we are temporary located in an empty classroom in an old school building.

Luckily enough, we recently were able to purchase a plot of land in that village to establish our own Daycare Centre.

Another step forward in our care for more children with disabilities in the surrounding area!
