Everyone at PCC is always very happy with the arrival of new residents,
Joe Emma was the one who brought these children to PCC. He did so together with some caregivers who looked after the children along the way. Two of these caregivers had never been to Accra before and were amazed by what they saw during their first visit to the Ghanaian capital. What a crowd, what a lot of people……..! They returned to PCC very tired, but also happy after a wonderful experience.
The first two new residents came from Accra, from Osu Childrens Home.
Their PCC names are: Adam and Abel.
Adam
This boy, about 6 or 7 years old, was found wandering the streets in Accra late last year and was subsequently brought to OCH. Adam has a moderate intellectual disability. For example, he speaks only to a limited extent.
When we saw him at OCH, he was still very shy, but since his arrival at PCC, that has completely disappeared. He opens up fully to his new environment and now radiates happiness.
At PCC, Adam behaves like the “older brother” of Abel, who came to our Community from OCH together with Adam.
Abel
Abel is about 3 years old and was born with an intellectual disability and spina bifida (= split spine). He also has strabismus (= crossed eyed).
Abel was abandoned by his parents early in his life and subsequently placed at OCH.
Abel has since undergone surgery on his back. His “split spine” is now closed, but he is largely paralyzed in his lower body. Therefore, he shuffles across the floor on his stomach to make contact with others.
The third new resident came to PCC from Kumasi Childrens Home, that is Jeremiah.
Jeremiah
Jeremiah is currently just over 3 years old. In 2024, he was abandoned by his parents/family in a small village near Techiman, where he was found one day by passers-by under a bridge.
After that discovery, the local Queen mother temporarily took care of this little boy, until – after some time – he was transferred to KCH.
Jeremiah is a child with CP (= cerebral palsy) and also suffers from epilepsy. He is not (yet) able to sit independently and has a somewhat sad appearance. Hopefully, that will change soon now that he has found a new home at PCC!
A new addition of 3 young children to PCC – as said before – always creates a festive feeling.
Although, of course, we would prefer to see children, like these three little boys, not simply being abandoned by their parents, left to their fate somewhere.
Unfortunately, that is not yet the reality for many children with a (severe) disability in Ghana, and that is why public education and giving positive attention to how much these children can achieve is also an important task for PCC!
Now, joy prevails that we have been able to give Adam, Abel and Jeremiah a new home at PCC. Here, we will provide them with maximum support in their further growth and development.
