There is always something going on in PCC

We have said many times before: in PCC life is never boring

and believe me, this is still more than true!

Therefore we like to inform you about some very interesting new developments in and around our Community.

Four (!) new residents

By the end of January we visited Osu Children’s Home in Accra and there we met 3 children who were eligible for a transfer to our Community

Their transfer to PCC took longer than expected, because of a strike by Social Welfare in Accra, but by the middle of May finally the day was there.

Joe Emma travelled to Accra for various PCC-activities and to our happiness he could bring along the 3 new children – two boys and one girl – to PCC when he returned home.

The two boys are named Simon PaaKwasi and King Saul, the girl got the name Naomi.

Simon PaaKwasi is a boy of about 17–18 years old, having Down’s syndrome, while King Saul is about 12–13 year old, he is hyperactive and has a moderate intellectual disability.

Naomi is about 11 years old, quite small for her age and she has an intellectual disability too.

All three of them were once abandoned “just somewhere” in Accra and after an admission for some years in OCH they are now transferred to PCC.

And after some weeks of adaptation all three of them have accepted their new environment very well, it seems they feel very much at home here.

Just a few days ago we accepted a girl from Tamale with CP / serious disabilities, both physical and intellectual. Her name is Patience, she is about 10 years old and has always been living on the floor with her grandmother, without receiving proper care.

Emma Boyan now also “Assistant to the PCC Board”

We are very happy with the good performances of Emma Boyan as the head of our Outreach programme as well as of the sheltered workshop and are grateful for his support given to the PCC Board in various other fields.

For his good services we appointed him in May to “Assistant to the PCC Board”. We wish him good luck while performing all his present and new tasks.

Emma Boyan: congratulations!

First special training day ever for the Daycare caregivers

As a result of developing 4 Daycare centers we now 9 experienced caregivers in 4 different places who are giving their best every day in the villages where the Daycares are established.

To support these 9 caregivers in their duties we organised a special training day for all of them in PCC

Lots of interaction, nice role plays, time for exchanging ideas and experiences and having fun together made it a very nice and instructive day

The Daycares are enabling PCC to spread its wings more and more in the surrounding Districts, to the benefit of children with a disability, living there.

A new house and what a beauty it is…!

We could inform you already before about the G8 group from Holland, led by Bernard Meier, who came to PCC October last year, to support the construction of a new Girls Dormitory!

It took more time than expected to complete the house, due to various delays with suppliers, but now all is done: the dormitory is completely ready!

And when you look to the photos of this new building, then you will agree how beautiful it is, quite special!

Nice to mention: As part of the King’s Birthday Honours in the Netherlands Bernard Meier received a Royal Award by the end of April for all his voluntary work, not in the least for his dedicated efforts over the years for PCC with G8. Bernard has been doing so already since 2007.

Bernard Meier, congratulations!

So we couldn’t think of a better name for the new house than BERNARD HOUSE and that was the name we revealed during the Official Opening on the 28th of May!

Conclusion

You will agree – There is always something going on in PCC!
